They walked back into the bright sunlit living room where the guests were waiting tense.
Richard was standing near the grand piano trying to look calm and entirely innocent.
David walked directly up to his brother with his fists held tight at his sides.
"How could you do that to Claire?" David asked, his voice shaking with pure fury.
Richard looked confused for a second before his face suddenly turned completely pale.
"I don't know what you are talking about, David," Richard lied, backing away slowly.
"We watched the security tape, Richard!" Sarah yelled, pointing her finger at his chest.
"You put that wire on the steps where Claire was about to walk upstairs!" Sarah added.
The room gasped loudly as the remaining family members backed away from Richard in disgust.
Eleanor covered her mouth with both hands, staring at her younger son in disbelief.
"Richard, tell me she is lying right now!" Eleanor cried out from across the room.
Richard backed into the marble pillar near the wire, realizing he had no escape left.
Two police officers stepped through the front glass doors with heavy leather handcuffs ready.
"You were going to ruin my life for a payout!" David shouted at his brother directly.
"I needed the money, David, they were going to ruin me!" Richard screamed back loudly.
"That is no excuse to endanger my wife and my child!" David snapped right back at him.
The officers grabbed Richard's arms and clicked the metal cuffs tight onto his wrists.
Claire watched from the couch as her brother-in-law was escorted away down the hall.
She felt tears fall down her cheeks, relieved that the danger was finally over now.
