Victoria stumbled back against the dining table, her face completely pale with shock.
Victoria: What are you saying, Arthur? Have you lost your mind?
Arthur: I knew who she was the moment I looked at the employment file.
Arthur stepped between Victoria and the two people holding each other on the floor.
He looked down at Sarah with a look of deep regret and sorrow in his eyes.
Arthur: I hired her on purpose, Victoria.
Victoria: You brought this woman into my house behind my back?
Arthur: Seven years ago, your father used illegal payoffs to secure Leo's adoption.
Arthur pulled a thick white envelope out of his suit jacket pocket.
He threw the papers onto the long dining table in front of his wife.
Arthur: I found the bank statements last month showing the bribes paid to the agency.
Victoria: That was done to protect our family's reputation!
Arthur: It was a crime, Victoria, and it tore an innocent mother's life apart.
Sarah looked up from the floor, holding Leo tightly in her arms.
The young boy had stopped crying and was looking back and forth between the adults.
Sarah: You knew all along, Mr. Sterling?
Arthur: I didn't know the truth until recently, Sarah.
Arthur walked over and offered his hand to help Sarah stand up from the marble floor.
Arthur: When I realized what my late father-in-law had done, I couldn't live with the guilt.
Victoria grabbed the papers from the table and began tearing them into small pieces.
Victoria: This changes nothing! I am his legal mother on paper!
Arthur: Those papers were signed under illegal coercion, Victoria.
Arthur: My lawyers have already filed a petition to void the original adoption.
Victoria let out a sharp gasp and backed away toward the open patio doors.
Victoria: You are ruining everything we built for a common servant!
Arthur: I am doing what should have been done seven years ago.
Arthur turned away from his wife and looked down at little Leo, who was holding Sarah's hand.
Arthur: Leo deserves to know the woman who actually gave him life.
